Illegal walls/bedrooms

Discussion about 99 John Deco Lofts at 99 John Street in Fulton/Seaport
There seem to be many illegal walls/bedrooms in the building. I assume they were put up primarily by the original lessor who wanted to maximize profit without paying necessary permitting/taxes etc. Has any unit been cited for this when a DOB inspector came in, perhaps to review renovation work? Has any wall ever been required to be removed? What is risk having a unit with an illegal bedroom and what is cost to correct? Can you apply for a permit/change in occupancy now? Thanks
