Hawthorne Review - Renters beware

I rented in this building for multiple years and feel that I should let potential renters know my experience before they sign up to live here. The super at this building is one of the most unprofessional and laziest people that I have ever met. When a neighbor next door was doing construction and busted a whole into our apartment, he offered no help. When we asked our apartment owner to step in, he lied to her and told her we were being uncooperative in letting them come up to repair it! Our most recent example of his general ridiculousness is that he refused to help us put light bulb fixtures back into the ceiling. According to him he's only available to do "normal maintenance and repair". The best part was that we just had the work ticket hanging out there for a week and no one would tell me why it wasn't being repaired. Finally, when I asked him he said "Oh, that? Yeah I'm not doing that." The building is old and at least once or twice a month one of the elevators will be out. The only positive thing I will say about the Hawthorne is that the doormen are generally pretty great, especially Luis and Miguel. I would seriously think twice before renting in this building. [less]
