Discussion about 500 Sterling Place in Crown Heights

RENTER BEWARE. This building was VERY POORLY constructed. And management has been incredibly slow to respond to tenants concerns and issues. Issues: 1. Cheap PTAC heat/cooling units with zero to no insulation causing extremely high energy bills. Our Con Ed bills for a 2 bedroom between November and March ranged from $400 - $750 / month. 2. Zero to no building insulation causing extremely cold apartments and pipe bursts. 3. Lack of security ... a security fence was promised to tenants at move-in (5 months ago) and the fence is still under construction. 4. Mold and water damage in many apartments. Our apartment flooded this winter with snow melt from outside (ground level) and we have complained about water damage and mold around our baseboards for months without having anyone over to investigate or fix the issue. 5. Trespassing. There have been cases of workers being let into units without permission from the tenants. 6. Warped floors 7. Sewage backflow in toilets in multiple 2 bedroom units due to poor construction and engineering issues (as stated from management) 8. Incredibly high rent for what the building is, and how much energy bills are costing. To use what the last commenter ended with: All in all this place LOOKS nice but just isn’t. For the rent they are trying to squeeze out of the tenants, you would imagine a higher standard that just is not at all met here. It’s a very clear case of someone trying to turn a quick profit by cutting corners wherever and whenever possible. Shameful. Supposedly the new owners and management company have hired a Construction Manager to begin working on all of the issues at the apartment. If that happens and appears to help resolve some of the issues I will update this post. [less]
