Discussion about 500 Sterling Place in Crown Heights
So disappointing. 1. Building is cheap 2. Electricity bill is expensive 3. Management is a joke 4. Noisey! 5. Lost mail To elaborate: 1. This building is cheap as shit. So disappointing. 1. Building is cheap 2. Electricity bill is expensive 3. Management is a joke 4. Noisey! 5. Lost mail To elaborate: 1. This building is cheap as shit. I had a professional guy install my TV. He warned me that the walls are super thin and that he wasn’t super comfortable affixing the TV to it. He used supports but still warned me against hanging too many items. He also noted that there was no insulation and wished me luck during the winter. He wasn't the only one. The man I spoke to at ConEd said the same. My bill was very high and warned me to not use my heat more than I have to. 2. Along with not having a lot of insulation the unit is very cold. Often times it’s colder in my apartment than outside. The windows are not double paneled so they allow all the cold to come straight in. The AC and heating units are also open all the time so the cold air just comes straight through into the vents. So you have to run the heating on full blast to keep it warm, which is terrible because the electricity bill seems higher than usual. However, I noticed that my neighbors are paying the exact amount I am. How is this possible if we’re all using different amounts of electricity and some of us have smaller places than others?! 3. I’ve tried so hard to contact management but they are a joke and don’t want to be bothered. You have to be super vigilant to get anyone to talk to you and when you do they are not helpful, never return your calls or emails, and tell you the same shit they already told you the last time you actually made it through to them. Also, they don’t know what the lease says. I think that right there tells you they honestly don’t care. 4. Thin walls and no insulation in a concrete and metal slab makes for a lot of reverb. 5. Mail has not made it’s way to me and my work requested a change of address because the mail they were sending was getting sent back! I have no idea why or exactly how much mail I have lost. All in all this place LOOKS nice but just isn’t. For the rent they are trying to squeeze out of the tenants, you would imagine a higher standard that just is not at all met here. It’s a very clear case of someone trying to turn a quick profit by cutting corners wherever and whenever possible. Shameful. [less]
