We are putting down a new floor in our apartment and I am having a hard time deciding between an engineered or solid wood floor. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with living with either product and having them installed? My concern with the engineered wood mainly stems from the beveled edge; will the edge make the floor look dated after a few years, when flooring trends change? Also, will the beveled edges lead to channels that fill with dirt? Our apartment has concrete floors with plywood squares. Some GCs have said they could glue an engineered floor over the plywood, which would be less expensive. Others say that both an engineered floor and solid wood floor require removing the plywood squares, installing a new plywood subfloor over the concrete, and then installing the wood floors. Any experience or knowledge about either method, pros and cons, would be appreciated. [less]
