Deadline for compliance is May 2025 How long has your building been compliant? When did your condo or coop install gas detectors?
My building (condo built 2015) has detectors on order to be installed by the deadline. For us its no big deal. For older buildings... a huge deal. Not so much the installation but the resulting avalanche of gas leak calls to 311 and 911. Older buildings may lose cooking gas service for extended periods when they fail pressure tests on old piping. Great time to be in the hot plate business.
I have multiple friends who have had gas shut off in their coop/condo. It is easily a 6-12 month project to get it restored between permits, work and inspections. One friend gave up and replaced his gas appliances with electric before the gas got restored.
