Garbage Shoots?

I am looking at buying a coop in Tribeca (renovated loft building) and it does not have a garbage shoot -- is this common in the neighborhood? Seems that residents bring garbage to the basement (which needs a separate key). Trying to decide if it is a deal breaker for me.
