Discussion about The Buchanan at 160 East 48th Street in Turtle Bay
I'll start by saying the maintenance staff is great - friendly, responsive, helpful. Everything else about this building is not worth your time and money. I'll start by saying the maintenance staff is great - friendly, responsive, helpful. Everything else about this building is not worth your time and money. "Amenities" were promised to be finished BEFORE I moved in a year ago (April 2018). Construction has yet to start. The entrances were supposed to have been finished even before that. We got a notice a month ago that the new 47th street entrance construction would finally start in early April. Nothing yet. The renovated apartments do have nice fixtures - but there are rodent problems (it's an old building and they run through the walls at night. If you're especially unlucky, they'll find a way into your apartment through the radiator areas.) They shut off water about once a month for reasons unknown. The least they could do during "construction" is keep the common areas and courtyard looking nice. But the courtyard has been filled with dead plants the entire time I've lived there, even in Spring/Summer. The elevator lobbies are dated and have chipped paint, crumbling walls, etc. I'd be fine with all this if they didn't continue billing themselves as a luxury building and charging accordingly. $4500 a month for a one bedroom with zero amenities is ridiculous. Find yourself a nice building with all the perks. [less]
