Discussion about The Continental at 885 6th Avenue in Midtown South

I've never encountered such an unpleasant, demeaning, and non-customer centric management team in a building (and lived in Manhattan for a very long time). There is a problem with the culture at the very top, which trickles down to every aspect (other than the lobby team) of the building management: common areas management, accounts, etc. The people/company that manage the gym and pool are demeaning and looking for ways to say “no” to any request or questions, which is a staple “yes” in every other Manhattan building I lived in. Never looking to find solutions. “The tenant is always wrong” seems to be the modus operandi. You can’t bring your own licensed and fully ensured trainer or masseuse in, unlike in other buildings; yet, the trainers and masseuses they provide are unprofessional and overly pricy. The gym, the pool, the common areas close in the most convenient time of their use: e.g. the pool is closed mid-day, when you have the best chances of not hitting high swimmer traffic. Any request to buy simple things like swimming goggles or kettle-bells is met with a “no”. Moreover, you can’t buy and donate your own! And there are no free weights in the gym: no bar, no heavy dumbbells – they won’t solve it themselves and they won’t allow you to solve it for them either! They also charge bogus “late payment fees”. The accounting/legal team is a whole different issue. My company pre-pays the rent automatically every single month with appropriate notices, yet, they fail to connect it to my apartment (despite the notices) and keep pinging eviction notices to my door and keep calculating late payment fees. I am always ahead of schedule with payments, yet my “late payment fees” balance keeps growing. And they are very unapologetic about it. Terrible, terrible service. “The tenant is always in the wrong” is the attitude. The lobby teams are great, however. Sam is the best one – he is just amazing. Bogdan is also great. [less]
