I am the former tenant of this apartment and post this as a desperate warning to you. I had to break my lease and move out because of how horrible and disgusting of a place this was. The first thing you'll see walking in is that the front garden and much of the building is infested with rats. They feed off of the uncovered trash that piles up in the yard. The apartment additionally hosts cockroaches, mold, and worst of all, BEDBUGS. When I reported the bedbugs to the city, the landlord called me up to scream, cuss, and demand that I write a letter to the city saying that there were no bedbugs in the apartment and that I had lied/been mistaken about the problem. There is a Tenant Harassment Unit investigation pending against her. The landlord is a vicious old woman with possible severe bipolar disorder who lives in the basement. She cleaned up and put on a nice act while showing the apartment to us, but we noticed a foul corpse-like odor coming up from her apartment soon after moving in. She essentially lives in her own filth without showering, with the unchanged litter from two cats, hoarded trash and food around her bedroom, and her multiple-pack-a-day chain smoking habit. You will need to deal with her episodes regularly as she calls you to scream that you have stolen her groceries, not paid rent you have already paid, or disrespected her nephew. The landlord also hosts a varying rotation of teenagers and twentysomethings in her apartment and on the floor above her. Some are her unemployed family members, and some are random kids just looking for long-term crash pads. They host loud parties running as late as 6AM even on weeknights, watch or leave on TV/videogames all day at maximum volume, and smoke weed and cigarettes whose odor will come up into your apartment along with the smell from their host below. Occasionally she will host people who permanently sleep on the first floor couch in exchange for favors . The most recent one was a drug dealer who had people coming in and out and smoking with him all day, and the previous one was a freebaser who left after pulling a knife and getting into a violent fight in the apartment over which the police were called. The building is old, badly maintained, and falling apart, as the HPD safety violations along with the bedbug violations indicate. There are broken floorboards, doors, pipes, appliances, and no super or regular repairman. Asking for a repair will typically result in the landlord screaming and cussing at you before hanging up on you.
