The Apthorp is easily one of the most renowned, white-glove Condominiums on Manhattans Upper West Side. The building designed by architects Clinton & Russell is Renaissance Revival in style and was built for William Waldorf Astor. Work on The Apthorp began in 1906, and in 1908, the now New York City Landmark, with its gilded gates and opulent interiors was complete. Its commanding presence occupies the block between West 78th and 79th Streets on the storied West End Avenue. The building which has been called "monumental” and “a masterpiece”, is designed around an elegant interior courtyard, it received its designation as a New York City Landmark in 1969, and was added to theNational Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The building was named for Charles Ward Apthorp, who owned Apthorp Farms, which encompassed approximately 300 acres (121 hectares) in this part of Manhattan in the late 18th century.

The Apthorp offers studios to expansive eight-bedroom units. The services you’ll enjoy at the Astor commissioned Renaissance Revival masterpiece includes: A westside and an eastside attended gate for your arrival, a rare interior motor court for discretion, a private courtyard and attentive lobby staff. Amenities include a fitness center and private spa, a yoga studio, and a steam room and sauna. There is a catering kitchen, a media and game room, and a bar. Children have a playroom of their own. Storage rooms are available.

The Apthorp has been home to George Balanchine, Al Pacino, Lena Horn, Nora Ephron, and Douglas Fairbanks, Sr, to name notable few.

Riverside Park can be found to your west, and Central Park to your east.
