Designed in the style of an Italian Renaissance palazzo by renowned architect Rosario Candela, and built in 1924, 875 West End Avenue is a 15-story building situated on the Southwest corner of West 103rd Street and West End Avenue. It was converted to cooperative ownership in 1979. The red brick façade is highly decorative, enhanced by elegant architectural details including a carved and rusticated limestone base, arched and rusticated terracotta trim around windows on the top two floors, balustrade-like projections below the 15th floor windows, projecting brick quoins at the corners, and an intricately detailed copper cornice. The initials R.C. are carved in the limestone above the canopied entrance. The grand lobby features polished marble walls, terrazzo floors, carved plaster ceilings and stained glass windows and doors. An advertisement in The New York Times of September 7, 1924 called it “The House with 1,500 Windows,” and boasted it was the “largest and most modern on the West Side.”

Originally consisting of 104 apartments, ranging in size from three to seven rooms, a few have been combined to create larger spaces. The apartment layouts are both gracious and practical. Most have large, inviting entrance galleries, spacious rooms and ample closet space. The larger units have butlers’ pantries and maids’ rooms, and all but the smallest have multiple exposures.

Building amenities include full-time doormen, a live-in superintendent, fitness room, community room, laundry facilities, bike room, and storage lockers available for rent. Pets are permitted, and 75% financing is allowed.

875 West End is ideally located just one block from transportation, shopping, restaurants and Riverside Park.
