Building: 639 West End Avenue

639 West End Avenue is a handsome prewar cooperative building located in the heart of the Upper West Side that is ideally situated only one block from Riverside Park. This well-maintained and pet-friendly building features a beautiful lobby with full-time doorman, as well as a wonderful live-in superintendent. The building is truly a warm and friendly community. Additional conveniences include bicycle storage, laundry room, and individual storage bins. 639 West End Avenue, a fifteen-story + penthouse building, was built in 1927 by the architectural firm of Gronenberg & Leuchtag. The firm’s designs were typically in the revivalist architectural styles so popular during this period, and this building offers an excellent example of one of these styles. Designed to resemble the elegant and refined palazzos of sixteenth-century Rome, 639 West End Avenue exemplifies the details of the neo-Renaissance style. It was converted to cooperative in 1971 and there are now 54 units in the building.
