Building: 49 West 72nd Street

This co-operative, built in 1929, was constructed originally with 81 units composed of studio and one bedroom apartments. Since its conversions in 1986 there are several lines that are popular to combine into spacious 4 or 5 room apartments with open views on the upper floors. The A and B line combines to a 5 room apartment, while the C and D line creates a 4 room unit. Many of the interiors still feature their original parquet-style hardwood floor, as well as other historic details like arched doorways and high, beamed ceilings. Located just down the block from the Dakota, this attractive, mid-block building is constructed in the Italian Renaissance-palazzo style. Limestone detailing creates a grand entrance and above the single-story limestone base. There are roman arches above the windows on the exterior of the third floor.
