Building: 271 Central Park West

Designed by architects Simon Schwartz and Arthur Gross in a Neo-Renaissance style, and built in 1912 before World War I, 271 Central Park West stands on the north corner of 87th Street and Central Park West, overlooking Central and the city. With an elegant, small lobby, this twelve-story, sophisticated intimate cooperative was constructed with just two apartments per floor and a penthouse. The iron work on the double set of front doors creates a sense of privacy as you enter to be greeted by the doorman and escorted up in the manned elevator. All of the homes were graced with a library, living and dinning rooms, wood burning fireplace and staff quarters. The park facing homes were 9 rooms and the river facing ones 8 rooms. Since the resurgence of Central Park West the 10th and 11th floor was duplexed into a grand 13 room home with 6 to 7 bedrooms with expansive views over the park and city. The East facing apartments are large, 9 room units with views over the park. The West facing units are 8 rooms with views of the city from the upper floors from the bedrooms. All the apartments have high ceilings, and other details of a by gone era. There is a bike room, and an outdoor half basketball court in the back of the building. Entering with a stroller is easy as there are no steps.
