Hello all, I purchased my condo in 2021, when I recently paid my quarterly property taxes, I noticed in the “refund” section, it claimed several checks had been issued over the years. Not large amounts, but refunds nonetheless. I assumed the checks were mailed to an incorrect mailing address on file. When I inquired to the NYC department of finance, this was the response: “ Dear Taxpayer, At your time of purchase, you signed Power of Attorney to your Condominium Board to act on behalf of the entire building. Property taxes were protested on your condominiums behalf by your condo board. If a protest is successful, tax reductions are granted and this results in a refund available. This refund is non-transferable to unit owners via The New York City Department of Finance. Any ensuing refunds due to these tax reductions must be filed and refunded to your Condo board as executor. Please see your Condo Board for refunds. Thank you for contacting the New York City Department of Finance” Has anyone else noticed this (check the refund section when you pay your property taxes!) and recieved a refund? Do I need to ask my condo board? Any guidance would be appreciated as although the refunds are not a large amount, if I’m entitled to it, I’d like to know how to get it. TIA Adam [less]
