Discussion about 1626 Third Avenue in Carnegie Hill

Our 1 year in this apartment was a nightmare. Our super did his best, but we could tell he was heavily managed by SC in what he was allowed to do and ask for. When we moved in, the flooring was rotting around the radiators, the bottom of some of the cabinets were being held together with packing tape, the outlets and radiators were painted over with several layers of regular wall paint, and the place was filthy. We did our best to clean it up and make it comfortable, but it was almost pointless. When there were leaks in the ceiling from the pipes that absolutely destroyed the drywall, we were told "don't worry someone will paint over it" which is LAZY and dangerous. Mold was absolutely growing in that drywall. They had the hallways painted, and painted directly over all of the dirt and dust on the boards and painted over an enormous crack in the wall in the stairwell. We had two washing machines in a building with 20 units that were 15 years old, and both of them were broken for about a month. When we and our neighbors called management for updates, they basically told us tough luck. One of the machines got fixed, and the other one remained broken for the last three months we lived there. It took them weeks to fix the broken front door that a homeless person threw a rock into. I could go on. They made themselves intentionally difficult to get a hold of, assuming that if they ignore people for long enough they will stop asking. The whole organization is shady and scummy. Bottom line, do NOT rent from this building or with the management company, SC Management. They couldn't care any less about the quality of their buildings or units, and will mistreat their tenants in the hopes they'll move out and can raise the rent on the apartment. [less]
