Hi guys, I rented a condo through a Douglas Elliman broker over a year ago. The broker recommended his wife's cleaning service to us in case we ever needed our new home cleaned. A few months ago, before lockdown had started, I hired them out of trust for our broker, who we did not have any reason to doubt at the time. We booked them a few times. Each time I tipped the cleaning ladies generously and was nothing but respectable toward them. So imagine my surprise when I found out that that they have been sending photos of my room to my roommate (a white guy, whom they likely assumed was the man of the house) and landlord through the broker and his wife. Granted, my room is messy and I leave clothes strewn on the floor when I don't have time to clean during weekdays. But they had NO RIGHT to take photos of a client's home, much less photos of a 20 y.o.'s room to her male landlord and roommate. This was not only an egregious breach of trust and privacy on the part of the cleaning ladies that we invited into our home, but the broker who rented us the apartment had abused his connection to his wife's cleaning service to spy on his tenants. I am absolutely disgusted at their conduct and will lodge a complaint against the broker. However, I know that my complaint will probably fall on deaf ears. Is there any other way I could get the word out about this broker and his wife's cleaning service company so others can be warned? [less]
