The Real Estate Board of New York has hit a major obstacle in launching their mls site because the major players like Douglas Elliman & Corcoran will not be participating. This will defeat the whole purpose of the site as a one stop search for all listings on the market since between the two powerhouses they hold over 60% of the listings. I agree not to participate since these firms have spent millions of dollars on their sites and have branded them. Also, their agents tend to be more knowledgeable and professional. I have recently experienced a situation in which the buyer's broker of New York Living Solutions took almost 4 entire business days to copy a board package because their copy machine was not very sophisticated and had to do it a page at a time. The manager was copying the package! Needless to say it was not submitted on time and delayed the process almost 2 weeks. This is a typical experience with small unknown firms and buyers and sellers should be aware of the pitfalls of a firm that does not have the same technology as a larger firm as it could cost them the sale. Why should these firms be put in the same category as the more professional firms who have made it to the top by providing more services and spending millions of dollars on training and advertising?
