Building: Trump Parc

As its legendary developer, Donald Trump and the Trump Organization, Trump Parc carries a bit of “legend” itself as the former Barbizon Hotel designed by Laurence Emmons in partnership with the architectural firm of Lloyd Morgan and Murgatroyd & Ogden.

It opened its doors to the public in 1930 and its history is one of glitz and glamour; New York’s first music-art residence that housed not only 1,400 opulent rooms but space for cultural inspiration — music halls, studios for artists, art galleries and exhibition rooms, expansive library and a glass-enclosed roof for athletics.

The building’s Modern Classical design had a striking rooftop that contained glass tiles set in concrete that sparkled on sunny days and at night were illuminated with a series of lights to create striking prisms. Mr. Trump bought the property in 1988, (along with a smaller building known as Trump Parc East) and converted the 38-story building into 340 luxury condos.

Trump put his indelible mark on the former hotel by working with architect Frank Williams, responsible for other Trump buildings such as Trump Palace, to not only modernize it with glamorous features but preserve its architectural beauty. Williams added Art Deco columns to the building’s rooftop to “create a crown” for Trump Parc. It certainly does that and more with its gilded gold-leafed spires.

The grand entrance at Central Park South establishes its place at Central Park and was transformed to include restoration of the existing masonry walls and enormous windows. The limestone base of the building was added to house retail space. The lobby boasts Trump’s signature style with marble, polished granite and lush landscaping.

Units range in size from studios (approximately 400 to 600) to large three-bedrooms (up to 3,000 square feet). Some units have outdoor spaces and all have high-ceilings, oversized windows and hardwoods throughout. Several units contain top-of-the-line, stainless-steel appliances and granite countertops, Italian marble baths (some windowed) and walk-in closets. Other features of some of these luxury units are surround sound, fireplaces and wet bars complete with wine coolers.

Trump Parc has Central Park as its front yard and is steps away from upscale dining/shopping on Park and Fifth Avenues, MoMa, Columbus Circle and Rockefeller Center. This is full-service, white-glove luxury living with historical relevance, elegant modernity and steps away from everything that defines Midtown Manhattan.
