Built in 1926, it was converted to a condominium in 1983 and contains 84 apartments. The conversion and restoration, designed by David Gura, altered the building’s largely windowless facade by inserting many new windows. The Building was commisioned for The Knights of Pythias which was a fraternity founded in 1864.

The conversion and restoration, designed by David Gura, altered the building’s largely windowless facade by inserting many new windows. The Building was commisioned for The Knights of Pythias which was a fraternity founded in 1864. It was built mostly in buff brick and terra cotta. Sprinkled over the surface is some of the most brilliant polychrome terra cotta in New York. The lobby has a double-height space in what appears to be polished black marble, with Egyptian decor, like a winged orb over the doorway. Some units are duplexes which have dramatically high ceilings . other units also have great views in the back which look onto brownstones but the minimal number of windows in the front play down its grandeur from the inside while making it eerily enigmatic when seen from outside.
