Building: The Emory

Morris Adjmi, founder and principal of Morris Adjmi Architects (MA) designed The Emory at 27 West 19th Street in the Flatiron neighborhood of the Ladies Mile Historic District. Known for his international and award-winning design projects all over the country and abroad, The Emory is one of five residential properties in Manhattan Mr. Adjmi has added to his impressive portfolio.

The 15-story building has a limestone base with the facade constructed of gray, glazed brick. Zinc-colored metal columns, window frames, cornice and spandrels create a beautiful juxtaposition against its prewar neighbors. There are only 15 residences, each occupying a full floor, with the penthouse unit having access to a 1,000 square foot private roof terrace.

Keyed elevators open onto each home and exquisite finishings and attention to detail are only part of the special amenities of the boutique building. Each luxury home has its own private terrace and its close proximity to Chelsea give residents convenient access to fine dining, great shopping and Chelsea’s nightlife and art galleries.

Baths have mosaic floors with radiant heat, Thassos honed marble white marble tiles and Florense Brazilian vanities. Recessed medicine cabinets with Robern mirrors and Zuma soaking tubs, large, glassed showers and Toto water closets are just some of the elements that make up these elegant, spa-like sanctuaries.

Each home is designed with a sleekly modern and neutral palette in subtle tones; white/light grays and gorgeous hardwoods lend themselves to traditional or modern interior design options. Upper floor units have triple exposure with phenomenal views of Manhattan’s skyline.
