Building: The Admaston

The Admaston at 251 West 89th Street is a distinctive pre-war building converted to condominium in the mid 1980s. Built in 1910 and designed by renowned architects George and Edward Blum, the Admaston features their trademark Secession-like styling, with hypnotic, lacy runs of terra cotta, beige tapestry brick with deep-struck joints, and extensive and inventive use of iron ornament. Twin carrara marble staircases wind up the interior of the building, featuring original wrought iron details, stained glass windows and skylights and the other period details that came to be signatures the quality and artistry of the Blum brothers.
