Park Avenue Court is one of the most prestigious condominium buildings on the Upper East Side. It sits on the corner of Park Avenue at 120 East 87t Street in the Carnegie Hill section of the UES. While only 17 stories high, the building is attractive and grand. The former Gimbel’s department store was built in 1972 and then converted in 1989 into a residential building by world-renown architecture firm Skidmore Owens and Merrill in 1989.

The building now houses 219 loft-like apartments with many unique floor plans ranging from studios to 7-bedroom units. The building offers a lovely inner courtyard and exceptionally high ceilings. Not only does the height of each floor give the building a formidable appearance from the street, it gives each unit a spacious, airy feel rare among other pre-war Upper East Side apartment buildings. In fact, some unit owners have increased the unit’s standard 13-foot ceilings to an impressive 17 feet, which, along with grand and oversized windows, helps infuse the entire building with great light. Terraces are also included with many of the units offering expansive views of the New York City landscape including the Chrysler Building and other NYC key spots.

Interior-wise, the finishes are top notch. The bathrooms were done in marble with soaking tubs and the master baths have separate shower stalls. There are hardwood floors, washer and dryers, laundry rooms and expansive storage space in every unit. Many apartments have extra storage bins, duplex loft bedrooms, balconies and large terraces. Amenities include a full-time doorman and concierge, a private health club with a swimming pool, a bicycle room, basement storage, upper and lower courtyard gardens, a children’s playroom and a garage.
