Building: Mrs. Amory S. Carhart House

This 4 story mansion has a full-time Doorman at the front door, which is set in the middle of three arched openings. Overhead there is a stone balcony with wrought iron railing and three sets of French doors set in another row of arched openings. The limestone facade has pretty carved panels that rise up to a bold cornice, crowned by a mansard roof and three arched dormers.

Designed in 1913 by architect Horace Trumbauer as a Louis XVI Parisian townhouse, the grand Carhart mansion is situated on one of Carnegie Hill’s prettiest streets. Designated a New York City landmark in 1974, the Commissioner described it as “one of the finest examples” in New York City of 18th Century French Classicism. 

Collaboratively redesigned by Zivkovic Associates and renowned London architect John Simpson, it was converted in 2005 into four exclusive, full service and grand scale residential condominiums that combine the luxuries of the finest modern finishes and appointments with the elegance of the traditional. Ranging in size from near 7,000 to over 14,000 square feet, each residence has a unique layout; simplex, duplex, triplex and penthouse.
