Building: Glenridge Mews Condominium

The Glenridge Mews Condominium is a 64 unit condominium developed in 1991 on the site of the former Dietz Coal Yard .
The property has three addresses: 71-01 Fresh Pond Rd, 71-03/71-05 Fresh Pond Rd, and 61-20 71st Ave and is located on the border of Ridgewood/Glendale, 11385.
It’s comprised of (9) building units, two are new structures while the remaining are renovations of the original early 1900’s structure. There are 52 different floor plans offering a wide variety of exciting layouts and unique living spaces. Units range in size from Studio, 1 Bed, 2 Bed and 3 Bedroom units. There are also numerous duplex units and townhouse units with private entrances. Many of the units enjoy private outdoor space as either a balcony, terrace or garden. The six story building completed in 1991 was designed to replace the original coal silos which were demolished. This building offers an elevator and trash chute. A three story building was integrated as contextual infill along Fresh Pond Road. Portions of the existing buildings were demolished in order to create the “mews”.
The mews as the name implies is the character and soul of the development. A peak through the iron gates from the street reveals a hidden private green space with paved walkways, post lights, benches, lush greenery and elements of the original structural architecture from the early 1900s building. The mews serve as a peaceful common space, a buffer, and place that interconnects but most of all it offers a pleasing and serene view for the residents to enjoy.

In 1990, ARCT Architecture, P.C. received First Prize For Excellence in Design from Borough of Queens Chamber of Commerce. The project also received a Building Award from the Queens County Builders and Contractors Association the same year.
Located less than three blocks from the M subway (Fresh Pond Rd) and six blocks from the L subway (Halsey St), it’s a quick 30 minute commute to Union Sq (Manhattan) and even closer to neighboring areas of Bushwick, BedStuy and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. There’s also express bus service to Manhattan (QM24, QM25) and bus service to Brooklyn and Queens (B13, B20, Q39, Q55).
Neighborhood shopping and a variety of dining options can be found on Fresh Pond Rd and Myrtle Ave. Additional attractions are the Ridgewood Public Library, YMCA and Joseph Mafera Park which are all just a few blocks away.
