Building: East River House

East River House is a beautiful 20-story luxury doorman building. Built in 1963 and converted to a cooperative in 1971, it originally consisted of 209 apartments. The prolific architect Philip Birnbaum designed the building with a focus on spacious rooms, abundant closets and amazing skyline and river views from many of the terraces and balconies.

505 East 79th Street is comprised of Alcove Studios (630 sq.), One Bedroom Apartments (750 sq.ft.), Two Bedrooms Apartments (900 sq.ft – 1,300 sq.ft) and Three Bedroom Apartments (1,550 sq.ft. – 1,700 sq.ft.). D’Agostino supermarket, a 24-hour Duane Reade, Chase Bank and Starbucks are all around the corner on York Avenue. One block away, at the corner of East 79th Street and First Avenue, the neighborhood is welcoming the new addition of the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS).

Stops for the M79 and M31 bus routes, along with a pick-up location for a Wall Street “taxi-share-a-ride” service are all conveniently located at the corner of York Avenue and East 79th Street. The entrance to the new Second Avenue subway is just a few blocks away at Second Avenue and 83rd Street.
