Building: 930 Saint Nicholas Avenue

930 St Nicholas Avenue is a 6-story elevator cooperative, located just north of West 155th Street. The building is formed by three wings divided by two light courts on either side of the building, and the buff-brick and limestone facade is tastefully garnished with scroll keystones and three small balconettes on the Western facade, facing the avenue. The simple classical revival style is credited to architects Albert Morris and Charles. P. Feibusch, who designed the building in 1909. Noted for its open exposures both to the East and to the West, the building enjoys a prime spot atop “Coogan’s Bluff,” an escarpment at the southern end of Highbridge Park, near the Harlem/Washington Heights Border.

930 St. Nicholas was first named “Historic Hall” at the time of its opening in the early 20th century, when the New York Giants baseball team was still hosting home games just down the hill in the third iteration of the storied Polo Grounds stadium, which stood from 1890 to 1964.

While the building no longer offers its residents free seats to watch the Giants and the Dodgers slug it out, its perch on the hill still provides close proximity to the letter C train and the Harlem River Drive/FDR Drive, as well as Highbridge Park and Jackie Robinson Park. 930 St. Nicholas Avenue has an elevator, landscaped garden, laundry room, bicycle storage, private storage (both subject to availability), and a live-in superintendent. Shareholders in the cooperative also benefit from a flexible sublet policy.
