The Manhattan Savings Institution Bank Building

One of the city’s most impressive land-marked buildings in the heart of Noho’s historic district.
The building is located on the north east corner of Bleecker Street and is listed as one of the city’s top ten loft buildings.

Constructed in 1889 – 1890 by architect Stephen Decatur Hatch, built in a mixture of Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival styles using a medley of materials: carved and rusticated sandstone, terracotta, brick, copper and cast iron. The architect took advantage of the corner site, crowning the building with a copper-clad tower visible for blocks and constructing an impressive wrought iron front entrance gate with a two story high arched entrance surround.
It remains one of the most ornate surviving 19th century buildings in Manhattan.

In 1987 this eight story, 60,000 SF building was restored and converted into 15 unit co-op by the renowned preservation architect, Joseph Pell Lombardi.

One of the most sensational bank robberies in US history took place here in the late 1800s. The infamous criminal mastermind and socialite, George Leslie, executed the largest bank robbery in US history, inspiring a book and film about the heist.
