Building: 59-21 Calloway Street

This seven-story, 111 unit, non- descript building is called the Calloway Chateau. Built in 1968, it was once called “The Meltingest Pot” by the NY Times because it was considered the most ethnically diverse building in NY, probably the US. The building is well known for housing The Forest Hills Spa (aka Russian Pool & Spa) which houses a pool, Turkish steam rooms, a Jacuzzi, a massage room and a restaurant. An example of an economically stable neighborhood, the Calloway Chateau has stood the test of time and weathered some economic downfalls. Its location is quite unique, bordering Forest hills and Rego Park, and Walkscore.com rates it a 77 (Very Walkable). Those who enjoy shopping will be glad to know that Rego Park Center (Century 21) and the Queens center mall are a 12 to 15 minute walk away. Additionally, the Flushing Meadows Corona Park, home to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (US Open), Citi Field, the New York Hall of Science; the Queens Museum of Art, the Queens Theatre in the Park, the Queens Zoo (and so on) is merely 10 – 20 minute stroll on the opposite directions. The area is served by the M and R lines with the closest stops at the 63rd Drive and Woodhaven stops and various buses including the Q88 on Otis/LIE and the Q23 on 108th St.
