Building: 504 Grand Street

The Amalgamated Dwellings, nestled between the Hillman buildings on the north side of Grand Street, are the pioneer apartments of Co-Op Village. Representative of the Art Deco period, an illuminated fountain is the centerpiece of the courtyard garden. With their elegantly high ceilings, windowed hallways, and arched entrances to the vast community room, these low-rise six-story buildings have a definite old world charm.

The Co-op boasts a large reserve fund with which to selectively make improvements. There’s plenty of bicycle storage. The modern laundry rooms are well equipped as is the new fitness center.

Cultural offerings are literally steps away at the neighboring historic Abrons Arts Center and Harry De Jur Playhouse. In the other direction the excitement of Chinatown, Little Italy and the East Village are a stroll or short bus ride away.
