Building: 50 Wooster Street

The 50 Wooster building was originally a six-story Romanesque cast-iron structure built in 1895 and designed by the architect F. S. Baldwin.

This building was joined with 42 Wooster to form The Wooster Street Condominium in the late 1990s. The two buildings were renovated together in the mid 1990’s by Lawrence B. Bogdanow, an architect and longtime SoHo resident. Many of the famed cast-iron and loft attributes were saved through a unique partnership with the Landmarks commission that allowed for stores on the ground floor (currently a gym, hair salon, and furniture store) and new penthouse units on top of each building.

With new plumbing, electrical, heating, and rooftop central AC, the full and half floors in the buildings were delivered mostly “raw” to the buyers in 1998. Each homeowner was able to complete their apartment to their own taste. The two buildings each retained an independent entrance and lobby with digital key-lock elevator access. There is a full-time superintendent onsite.
