Building: 50 East 77th Street

Built together with the forty-story Carlyle Hotel in 1929-1930, on a continuous twelve-story base, the seventeen story Carlyle House is a separate cooperative building, entered at 50 East 77th Street. The two buildings occupy the entire east-side block front of Madison Avenue, from East 76th to East 77th Street.

The Carlyle House is unusual in its urbane and moderne, pre-war style. It has spacious apartments, many with double height living rooms, and it has an unusually sophisticated lobby and attentive staff.

The co-op also offers residents access to Carlyle Hotel services, on an unusual pay-as-used basis. Residents have use of both room service and the hotel’s fitness center.

The Carlyle House is also the owner of the Madison Avenue retail space at its base. Turnover of the existing retail leases, in 2016, is expected to contribute significant additional income to the corporation.
