Building: 404 Riverside Drive

404 Riverside Drive—The Strathmore was built in 1909 by the design team of Schwartz and Gross. This twelve-story building has a distinctive entrance marquee that was originally made of glass with dramatic five-globed torcheres positioned at each side. Rusticated limestone forms the four-story base of the building with dark redbrick comprising the middle stories and a three-story limestone and terra cotta capital rises to meet the rooftop cornice. Originally built with two 10-room residences per floor featuring intricate plaster moldings, parquet floors with inlaid borders, high ceilings, walnut paneling and mahogany doors the Strathmore remains a Riverside gem a century later. The building currently has 48 apartments and was incorporated in 1967 and allows for 67% financing.
