From the vision of the Artist and Designer Virginie Sommet, arises a highly curated and exclusive collection of four unique homes: a studio, a one-bedroom and two duplex two-bedroom apartments with private outdoor spaces.
When conceiving the exterior of Five Greene, Virginie Sommet sought to complement Fort Greene and its local architecture. To look forward, it was necessary to look back. By studying the detail and expression in historic structures nearby, she was able to reinterpret those and add a Parisian flair to it. Taking note of the smallest details and texture, she rethought them in a purely contemporary way. She carefully chose the façade’s color, ornaments, windowsills, lintels, joints corbels and flowers, which were all made skillfully by hand.
She thus managed to keep Fort Greene’s authentic architecture alive while incorporating a sense of refined elegance in the structure.
The result? A state of the art construction yet rooted in history.
A building that is European inspired yet knit into the architectural and cultural fabric of Fort Greene and enriched with an intimate relationship with the street it sets in. A building that is a celebration of classic materials and masonry techniques. A building that is art. Five Greene represents the new Fort Greene. Rooted in the past. Looking to the future. Welcome to Five Greene.
In creating the residences of Five Greene, Virginie Sommet combined equal parts pop and coveted modern sensibilities.
Five Greene Avenue is an obvious and organic intersection of Virginie’s core culture and values: a celebration of minimalism, enlightened design, deconstruction, an ode to simplicity and a touch of exuberance.
The key points of Virginie’s design for Five Greene reside in the importance she placed into creating livable spaces where one can feel at home and build his own sanctuary. A place where space, design, proportions and light would come together seamlessly.
The entire building is accentuated by InvisiLED Symmetrical Recessed Channel by WAC Lighting designed by Virginie. She used the most advanced materials, production and LED technology that is also committed to sustainability. They have been designed to blend seamlessly into the architecture and compliment a minimalist design. The linear systems blend seamlessly into thick drywall without joist modification, while down lights plaster directly into the ceiling to create a minimal illuminated illusion. These modern lighting solutions create dynamic architectural accents that deconstruct space and heighten atmosphere.
Having an aversion for double hung windows that often prevent people from enjoying a full view, she opted for custom made 36”x89 inches casement windows with glass double-pane H-K LoE2- 270 insulated Terma Plus, laminated to increase safety, reduce sound transmission and allow an abundance of natural light to wash over bedrooms and living spaces.
The windows are complemented with custom-made roller shade in the living space and custom black out shades in the bedrooms.
The living spaces mix modern sensibilities such as LED light, central air conditioning, Aiphone GT Sythem video-intercom, integrated BOSE speakers in the ceiling and raw elements like exposed brick wall.
Aesthetically appealing floating glass railed staircase leading can be found in the two-bedroom duplex apartments.
Every element in the kitchens at Five Greene Avenue has been entirely custom made and beautifully features custom white lacquer cabinetry with integrated Faber range hood, Silver mirror mosaic back splash, Bertazzoni cooktop 4 burners, Fisher & Paykel Fridge in some units and LG Fridge in others, Bosch dishwasher.
The bedrooms harbor a sense of serene tranquility with enormous windows accented by LED light gaze out onto the first floor garden or Cuyler Gore Park and allow inspiration to peacefully filter in. They come with custom closets.
The bathrooms feature frameless glass door, Toto toilet, floating vanity and LED recessed lighting incrusted in the tiled wall.
An elevator accessible from the sidewalk serves the two first floor apartments.
The four private residences represent an aesthetically designed wonder that seamlessly blurs the boundaries between art and architecture.
