Building: 229 Grand Street

Historic loft building converted by artists in 1981. Intended to house light manufacturing, the building belonged to the “King of the East Side Pawnbrokers” in the early 1900s and was the site of a colorful gem heist. Original architecutal features still intact: high ceilings, large windows, plank floors and brick walls. Currently configured as street level retail store which includes building basement and 5 floor-thru residential lofts. Upper floors have three exposures and north windows facing the stunning facade of the landmarked Bowery Savings Bank. NoLita location often referred to as a Time Capsule of New York from days of old.
