Building: 191 Clinton Street

191 Clinton Street, also known as “Gateway to Cobble Hill” is a 5-floor, 20 apartment condo building on the border of Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights. It was built in 1871, and one of its former uses was a school for girls. At one point a Middle Eastern restaurant, now relocated across the street, was situated on the ground floor and an entire boat sat in the middle of the restaurant. The loft apartments are spacious with high ceilings and large windows. This landmarked building is a rarity in that it is a pre-war condominium, converted from rental units in 1985, at a time when many other buildings were converted to co-ops and condos in NYC were almost unheard of.
