Description

Originally conceived as a warehouse and store in 1872, by the architect Henry Fernbach, this handsome, five story elevator building, is set along the banks of a cobble stone lined street, lifted high by five bold Tuscan columns, that provide a sense of scale and strength, reflective of this Cast-Iron era.

There are six arched bay windows for each floor, stately and elegant – each measuring 10 feet in height – that allow a phenomenal amount of natural light to flood the loft-style spaces. Within these private residences, you will find original details such as hard wood floors, wooden joists, brick, and ornate cast-iron columns, reminding you that you could only be in New York, and only be in SoHo.

In historical context, Greene Street was named after the Revolutionary war hero, Nathaniel Greene, and was developed where farm lands once stood. The neighborhood would transform itself many times over, going from manufacturing and industrial use, to then becoming a nest to some of the most famous and important artists communities the world has ever seen. Proudly, Greene Street holds a significant number of some of the most intricate buildings of this landmarked (1973) neighborhood.

Today, 19 Greene is a fully occupied, private Co-Op resident building, with the Italian furniture company, Studio Anise, as the building’s commercial tenant. 19 Greene is set in one of the world’s premier shopping and cultural districts, and is conveniently connected to a full assortment of New York’s transit systems, providing easy modes of access to the rest of this exciting city.
