Building: 19 East 72nd Street

Designed by not only one but two premiere architects of their day, Rosario Candela and Mott Schmidt, this exquisite 1936-1937 limestone faced building is considered one of the top ten buildings in Manhattan. It was constructed during the depths of the Great Depression yet no detail has been spared both in the design element and the construction. Initially the residents of both huge townhouses and enormous but old fashioned apartment suites were drawn to the state of the art building of its day. These suites were designed with those people in mind. With 3 to 4 bedrooms, each suite still retained the grandeur of yesteryear in the public rooms yet without the many, many bedrooms of the old buildings or townhouses. 19 East 72nd Street is an architectural masterpiece in the middle of one of the most beautiful blocks on the Upper East Side.
