It is located on 7th avenue which is also known as Adam Clayton Powell Blvd on the northern tip of Central Park. 1829 like many of the buildings in the area is classified as ‘C4 Old Law Tenement’. Buildings in the C4 class are old law tenements built in New York City between 1879 and 1901. These buildings are also called “dumbbell tenements” because they are shaped like a dumbbell, wide at their edges and narrow in the middle. This was done in order to create air corridors between them. The majority of these buildings can be found in Manhattan (78%), Brooklyn (14%) and the Bronx (7%).
