Building: 130 East 12th Street

130 East 12th Street is a seven-story brick and stone warehouse loft building built in 1905 by the famed architectural firm Renwick, Aspinwall & Tucker. The firm is known for its design of many downtown landmarks, including nearby Grace Church and the Grace Memorial House that now houses the Grace Church School, as well as St. Patrick’s Cathedral and several Neo-Classical buildings built throughout the city for the Provident Loan Society. The building was constructed for the Schlemmer family, founders of the Hammacher Schlemmer hardware company, which had recently re-located from its original location on Bowery to a new building around the corner on Fourth Avenue and Thirteenth Street.

130 East 12th Street was converted into a luxury loft condominium residences in 1985. The building includes a ground floor commercial unit and eight full-floor or half-floor residences as well as a duplex penthouse. This boutique condominium features a virtual doorman, part-time super, common roof deck and low common charges.
