Building: 118 East 18th Street

Built in 1868, this five-story mansion was designed in the Second Empire Style by architect Stephen Decatur Hatch. Hatch also designed many landmarked buildings in New York including the famous Gilsey House Hotel, the Robbins & Appleton Building and the New York Life Insurance Company Building, to name just a few.

118 East 18th Street (also known as The Sarah Feldman House) was converted from a private home to a multi-family building in 1964, but the original details were left mostly intact. The wide, sweeping staircase dominates the interior while both hand-carved and plaster moldings and medallions decorate the walls and ceilings. Original hand-carved fireplace mantles, doors and window trim are a testament to forgotten times. Perfectly located between Irving Place and Park Avenue South, both Gramercy Park and Union Square are just moments away.
